I promise you, it is far from it.
Justin contacted me a few weeks back because his girlfriend Katrina didn't get the chance to have family portraiture over the holidays. He wanted to surprise her with something special to her and commissioned me to take their portraits on the beach. We talked about the usual.. wardrobe, location, style. All that jazz. During that conversation, he also mentioned something else.
Something LIFE CHANGING.
He wanted to ask Katrina to marry him. AND HE WANTED TO DO IT DURING OUR SESSION! Seriously, this man is genius. Not only does he COMPLETELY catch her off guard, but he is awarded with the RARE opportunity to document that special memory.
Over the next two weeks we planned everything.
I mean eeeeverything.
It was orchestrated so well I think I was just as nervous as HE was trying not to give it away!! Since he had driven with Katrina, he had to hide the chalkboard that he purchased to "propose" to her in the bed of his truck. When he arrived, I greeted them and Justin snuck his ring into my camera bag. My assistant casually faked a light problem and said she needed to go to the car to get new equipment.
She actually went to Justin's car to get the chalkboard.
Before the session, we bought champagne and hid it in our camera bags. It was definitely a team effort! This is how it started out....
